Last night BUMP Records artists Kovu, Queen Nefertiti, Moria Moore and Teka performed at the SFMOMA as part of a collaboration with artist, Mark Bradford. The 4 performed songs from both released and upcoming projects, as well as music inspired by the work of Bradford. A great attendance, a great performance. Definitely a night for us to remember! Mark Bradford presents Pinocchio is on Fire; Rineke Dijkstra in Conversation On the opening of two mid-career retrospectives, Mark Bradford’s and Rineke Dijkstra’s, we present an evening of the artists’ voices and visions. Dijkstra kicks off the evening with a 7pm conversation about her portrait work with our Senior Curator of Photography, Sandra Phillips. The evening is capped when young, local musicians cover Bradford’s multi-media piece, included in his exhibition, Pinocchio is on Fire. Pinocchio is a full-length record that presents a composite star—part soul singer Teddy Pendegrass, part of the artist’s outsized response to Pendergrass’ image, and part a community of young people in South L.A. About the artists: Moria Moore, 17-years-old, found escape in the space between words and sound, a voice that breathes life to transform imagination into reality. Her album Vitality can be downloaded at: http://bumprecords.bandcamp.com/album/vitality Queen Shabazz, 16-years-old, is a poet, musician, and artist who has performed at art galleries, television shows, theaters, including Herbst Theatre, Julia Morgan Theatre and the SF Opera House. Abbas Khalid, 18-years-old, is a producer and MC as well as a community activist. His album Shine Harder After Death (which also stands for his stage name SHAD) can be downloaded at: http://bumprecords.bandcamp.com/album/shine-harder-after-death Artist mentor/educator and MC for the event:</strong> Do D.A.T. is an inspirational instructor, musician, MC and performer from Oakland, CA. Mentoring BUMP Record artists since 2004, Do D.A.T. gives youth the tools they need to record, perform, distribute and grow their art through BAVC’s Next Gen programming.
